Just before the darker days take over, October with all its bounty on the fields and floors seems like one last colourful celebration of life. As the year’s creative force withdraws into the ground, nature puts on her most beautiful dress and asks us to dance the dance of autumn sunshine, swirling leaves and night storms as a parting gift before the winter. One last time we feel the abundance of plants as we stand knee-deep in a colourful bed of fallen leaves.

This is the season of underworld goddesses. As the light is waning, nature’s energy is drawing towards and into the earth – to sleep, to rest, and to find that spark of life again when the time is right. Death and goodbyes are the theme of the season, as well as a natural part of life, that allow us to make space for new things to be born.
Just like Persephone’s descent to the underworld means the death of her as a maiden, it is also a key event for her to transform into a mature goddess, who has the power to reign on either side.

Bevor die dunklen Tage überhand nehmen, feiert der Oktober mit uns ein letztes Mal die Farben des Lebens. Während sich die Energie in Boden und Wurzeln konzentriert, zieht die Natur noch einmal ihr schönstes Kleid an und tanzt mit uns einen Tanz aus Herbstsonne, wirbelnden Blättern in Rot und Gelb, und gelegentlichen nächtlichen Stürmen – ihr Abschiedsgeschenk an uns.

Die Saison der Unterweltsgöttinnen hat begonnen. Das Licht nimmt stetig ab und die Kräfte der Natur ziehen sich in die Erde zurück, um zu schlafen, zu rasten und um einen neuen Lebensfunken zu finden, wenn die Zeit reif ist. Abschied und Sterben sind Thema der Saison und ein wichtiger Teil des Lebens, der Raum für die Geburt von Neuem schafft.

So wie Persephone’s Abstieg in die Unterwelt den Tod von ihr als Mädchen bedeutet, ist er ein Schlüsselerlebnis für ihre Transformation und Wiedergeburt als reife und mächtige Göttin, die auf beiden Seiten zu regieren
vermag.
