Dragonbread on Michaelmas

Autumn, Recipes, No Comments

Hello and welcome, I’m Patricia

In this space I savor seasonal recipes, celebrate the spirit and lore of food and delve into the magic of everyday. I honor what sustains us by sharing its beauty through cooking, painting and writing.

Green Tea over Rice on Instagram

The adorable reason for my absence from social media. Also, ever since this gorgeous garden gnome from outer space came into my life there is no time left for cooking, not to mention writing and photographing blog posts. Instead, I survive on bananas, sourdough crackers, food made by friends and marvelling at his smile. 🌌
Blessed Candlemas to you! Throwback to last year’s butter churning. Find the recipe for cultured butter on Brigid’s day on the blog 🐑 ⁣
Prepared and blessed at Candlemas, Navettes are a traditional pastry that has been baked in Provençe since the 18th century. The delicate scent of orange blossom water trapped in these boat-shaped cookies, turns the otherwise basic recipe into a heavenly experience.⁣
New year - new hope for a better one than the last. And though everything feels like new beginnings, the old witch of winter still holds us in a tight grasp. While this year the season in Montréal is unusually mild (zero-ish to minus five in recent days) the snow and ice are enough reason for me to make this simple and warming oat soup at least three times a week. 😌 Use a rich stock and some seaweed as topping and you’re all set for dinner. Find the recipe and lore on Cailleach, the witch of winter, in the blog archives under “oatmeal soup for the winter witch”. ⁣
Happy New Year everyone! May it be full of light and abundance. #2021
Vanilla crescent cookies or Vanillekipferl, as they are called in Austrian German, are a Viennese invention – and as all things Viennese, this means they have a mixed heritage of many countries and cultures. The tradition of creating crescent shape pastries however, is said to stem from the times of wars against the Ottoman Empire. Eating a sickle moon shaped food symbolised the defeating of the Turks. ⁣
Nut cheeses are not a recent invention. The Ancient Romans used to prepare cheeses made from ground almonds, oil and salt and I imagine they left them to ferment too! If you want to make sure your nut cheese ferments safely, just add the contents of a probiotic capsule to the mix - it will give it a deliciously tangy taste. Add herbs - fresh or dried - for more depth of flavor and variety. ⁣Ferment to desired sourness. If you’re in a hurry you can speed up the process by putting the cheese in an oven set on the lowest setting, keeping the door slightly ajar.
Happy Krampus Day! ⁣
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees ⁣

My Illustrations on Instagram – The Enchanted Ibex

Another type of animal portrait: One of the largest commissions I did so far, this cute kitty hiding in the forest has absorbed all my attention for over a month. Happy to ship this one to its new owners, but it was nice hanging out together 🥰😉⁣ Grateful for patient clients who are accepting of my 🐌 pace. 🙏🏼
Serious Queen • This beauty was such a pleasure to paint, although her special colors and serious expression were quite a challenge to me 😉 This is in fact the second time I’ve painted this cat ... you can find her towards the beginning of my feed as a wee kitten 🥰 ⁣
Happy new year from my home office desk to yours 😉 One of my new year’s resolutions for 2021 is to paint more landscapes, as I find those particularly challenging. I really enjoyed creating this one, painting such a warm, sun-kissed palette while there’s ice and snow outside makes me dream of summer and travels 😌 ⁣
Happy Krampus Day everyone! I haven’t been around IG much lately because life has been busy and quite overwhelming 🤪There’s also lots of commission work I cannot (yet) share, and due to the pandemic my shop has to stay closed for yet another season 😢 Hence silence prevails, but I hope to be back in full swing soon. Hope you’re all good and Krampus didn’t get you. This pen & ink illustration is from last year’s Krampus cards. PS: Goats forever!!! 🐐 ⁣
This gorgeous soul was just sent out as a Christmas gift! I love painting commissioned animals and hope that receiving a picture of their furry familiars will bring the recipient lots of joy ✨⁣
